DRIVE 4UR school: School fundraiser for new Dartmouth South community playground

Construction for a new P-9 school is underway for Dartmouth South families. The new facility will replace and combine Southdale North Woodside Elementary and Price Arthur Junior High schools, and is projected to open its doors for the 2017 academic year.

The new school has inspired a new vision for the community, and a group of parents from Dartmouth South Central are raising funds for the playground and outdoor space. Together they have committed to raising $100,000 for a beautiful, durable, and accessible play space with a focus on connecting children and the community as a whole back to nature by incorporating natural play structures and green spaces.

“It has been an amazing experience to be a part of the process of students, staff and community working together to design our new play area,” Adrienne Blumenthal, the principal of Southdale North Woodside says, “It will be wonderful for all groups to be able to see their contribution when the playground is ready and to know that our students had a voice in the design process.”

To kick off the community fundraising, the volunteer committee has partnered with MacPhee Ford, to host a fundraising event that won’t cost a dime, just five minutes of time.

On Saturday, May 28 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., members of the community are invited to visit MacPhee Ford at 580 Portland Street and test drive the vehicle of their choice. For every test drive, MacPhee Ford will donate $20. Volunteers aim to raise $6,000 for the new Dartmouth South Playground through this Drive4UR School project.

The community is encouraged to show its support and drop into MacPhee Ford and registering on site or by pre-registering for a test drive by visiting the Dartmouth South Community Playground Facebook page, (https://www.facebook.com/dartmouthsouthplayground).

Anyone wishing to support the fundraising efforts is invited to ‘like’ the Dartmouth South Community Playground Facebook Page to get details on more upcoming events and fundraisers and support the new playground.
